am generally ok with doomsday scenarios as i believe that our depredations of the earth will, at some stage, come back to doom us.
2012 deals with such a scenario, albeit with a strong dash of mythology rather than aforementioned depredations.
i loved the SFX and the general scientific drift of the story, but could not stand the hero/family drama that linked the series of events.
somehow i could lose them in the overall plot just staring at the background where nature is going berserk.
and jimi mistry as the indian astro-physicist is quite appalling.
overall, i would recommend this movie as watchable.

world environment day
today it is the world environment day.
daily news and analysis has a series of articles on the situation in maharashtra and mumbai.
1. Urbanisation has turned on time bomb in state - has statistics on the deterioration in life due to pollution.
2. the rapid decrease in tigers and indiscriminate poaching can destroy eco system.
3. escalation of water crisis in maharashtra - 3 crore of the population depends n water supplied through tankers and less than 50% have access to sanitation facilities.
4. some thoughts and ideas on citizen action
as individuals, we tend to believe that we are too small and ineffectual to be able to impact this degradation.
this is as true as the fact that this post will be read by more than 5 people.
we can only do small things and that's what we should keep doing even though we may think that it may not save the world as it will surely postpone doomsday by additional nanosecond.

96 months left
i am not a big fan of prince charles and would treat his 96 month doomsday scenario with skepticism.
but there are enough signs that something is going very wrong. and many of the prince's points are valid diagnosis.
may be a 'scare' tactic may jolt a few out of their insensitivities? i don't think so...
in the 11th hour, david suzuki mentions a study which costs the services rendered by nature at $33 trillion per annum. and that economists assume that these services (i.e., pollination, CO2 to oxygen conversion, etc) in their models and think that these services are free and will be available forever.
