urban traffic chaos...

..."is seriously damaging health, increasing stress, decreasing productivity and the overall situation is getting worse", says the latest india today cover story - "jam session".

with automobile sales growing at upwards of 20% each year, there is no chance in hell that infrastructure growth can keep pace.

while china is getting into a deeper hole, india is begging to catch up.
i am told that the central parts of london do not have a single flyover - the ubiquitous traffic decongesting solution for urban india - which does beggar some thought on how we have mismanaged our urban infrastructure.

delighted that am out of it.

I've heard this cheeky one somewhere "India is chaos, and China is organised chaos!"
You have been to China, tell us how organised chaos looks like. So we can organize our own chaos :) (Even if it is leading us to a hole)

everything runs under ground - so, they didn't flyovers. same is true in NewYork city.

i am a big fan of using public transportation in chennai. but, i should admit, it does get over crowded and beyond usable, sometime of the day.

if our citizens gets more lane discipline, we would have a stress free ride, most of the days. how to infuse lane discipline is the big question.

Absolutely. Will cut road-accidents in half.

And before lane discipline, we need to stick to our side of the road... rather than just going into the oncoming traffic!

v - can hardly remember those days...

ss - the largest mode of public transport - walking - is the most neglected.
license acquisition should be made much more stringent (like in US). and renewed every 5 years or so...
