i think that the govt is tacitly allowing this to happen so that they have one less item to bother about.
Between 2002-03 and 2007-08, Maharashtra started 1,874 new public schools.this shift is quite prevalent and strong in the cities, but now the trend has moved into the villages.
The Tamil Nadu government set up 3,139 schools between 2002-03 and 2007-08 under the SSA.
But simlutaneously, they have allowed the setting up of many private schools as well.
this is a trend which bothers me. there are several proponents for privatising education, but i don't buy that line.
the other bothersome trend is the shift in population from rural to urban.

I don't like it either.
BTW do you have any formal feedback on the utilisation of that humongous fund to BMC schools two years ago? Kids were to get uniforms of several colours, bags, water bottles, snack boxes, flavoured milk everyday, shoes, socks, raincoats, rain shoes.
kbpm - since 2007, the BMC is distributing 27 items to all their school kids.
there are the usual glitches in this, but overall, it is in progress.
interestingly, this distribution has led to kids moving back into BMC schools (for the wrong reasons altogether) as we have experienced in goregaon area.
flavoured milk is not in flavour now, due to 3-4 instances of food poisoning. they are thinking of of others ways to affect the health of the students.
of course. teach them to not do anything without bribery, and teach them young.
